Saipan was the site of a fierce battle between the US and Japanese in June/July 1944. Here you can see some of the remains of the equipment used in that conflict.

WWII US SHERMAN TANK There are two Sherman tanks stranded on the shallow western side of Saipan at Invasion beach. These photos are of the most southerly one, near Susupe, about 150 meters from the shore. They are quite easily accessible, being able to walk out most of the way to them at low tide. They are now home to a variety of sea life. See more wreck photos on page 2

WWII JAPANESE WEAPONS There are two Japanese tanks on WWII, though not much but the outer shell remains of them. There are a few old Japanese artillery and weapons left on the island. OTHER WWII WRECKAGE This wreckage of something is in the water near one of the Sherman tanks. Considering the amount of fighting that went on in Saipan, it is not wonder there is a lot of wreckage still on Saipan. There is a Japanese plane in the water near the harbor. Some other equipment on a nearby island. I am sure there is more for me take photos of, I just have to find it. *Update 2006, yes there is, see wrecks page 2.
